Metal Buildings Are Eco-Friendly And Economical

Metal Buildings Are Eco-Friendly And Economical
By Adrianna Noton

Versatile, economic metal buildings are gaining popularity. New technology and designs are helping to expand this market. Steel buildings were once only used for storage, or farm buildings, but recently the green-movement has recognized them as a viable solution in the construction of eco-friendly homes.

Contractors and subcontractors specialize in the construction, although some folks may prefer to try a do-it-yourself structure. The DYI types are good for storage units, or garages which may not require heating or plumbing facilities. Erecting large structures which require a lot of support and perhaps different rooms, such as a home might need, would be best left to the professionals.

Building a steel home is considered to be very eco-friendly as steel is recyclable. Steel buildings are also less expensive to construct. They are strong and very resilient in all sorts of weather conditions. At first it may seem strange to think of a steel-structured home but it really makes sense when given some serious thought especially when considering open concept homes which are becoming more popular.

Open concept homes are also popular in the green movement. Many green movement homes do not use gas, oil, or much hydro for heat and cooling. Instead, they use more energy efficient methods. Alternatives such as underground water-tubing or natural underground thermal systems.

It is being proven that these alternative heating and cooling systems work best in open-concept homes. Steel roofs are extremely functional and attractive. The colors are vibrant and provide reflective properties to keep the home cool in summer months.

Rain falling on a steel roof has a very peaceful feeling. When rain water falls off these roofs into barrels or cisterns, it is still clean and there is no toxic residue contaminating it. It can be safely used to water lawns and gardens. Sun-roofs and solar panels which serve to enhance the environmentally friendly building are easy to install.

Constructing a metal home is far less expensive that more traditional methods for which prices seem to be consistently escalating. Steel homes lend themselves to open-concept designs because there is less need to interior support beams, reducing construction costs. Window space can be well-taken advantage of as well.

It is surprising how steel homes do not have to look like they are made of metal. Exterior walls can look like brick or stacked stone. These are, of course, facades which are layered over the basic exterior wall. Steel construction can easily mimic the look of brick or stone. Plus, steel requires very little maintenance.

These fabricated-steel facades are beneficial in a couple of ways. They add an additional means of temperature control because of the layered affect. They are easy to look at, maintain and clean. When a new look is desired, they can simply be peeled off and replaced creating the look of a brand new home.

Metal building uses are becoming far more sophisticated than in days gone by. Rather than being thought of only as places for storage, they are becoming popular as comfortable, economic, and environmentally friendly homes.
