For many years people worked very hard when it came to constructing their homes and buildings. Trees were cut down and milled to make the necessary wood for the frames; hammers were used to drive the nails into the wood. It was hard laborious work that made many men exhausted by the end of the day. In the late 1800's a company finally found a way to make that work a little easier and power tools were born.

The first instruments were very rustic in design. Their beginnings were quite heavy and unmanageable, making them difficult to use. They were not very well thought out, only adding a motor to the original design. The were rather costly and pretty untrustworthy, so they were not very popular with the workers.

As the years passed, improvements were made to them. The electric drill of the 1900's was developed with a gun-like grip. This made it much easier to hang on to and handle. The newer saw had a bigger blade and motor. But they were still very costly to develop.

Due to the first world war, several new designs were needed. An instrument that could be used in the water was needed to help with repairs to the ships. When World War II came around, a new nail gun was designed. This took the form of the weapons that soldiers were using in the battlefield.

Eventually, in the late 1950's tools that were cordless were being sold. The very first design used compressed air cartridges for their power. Shortly after that, companies began creating families of instruments that could be powered by an interchangeable battery.

Many companies are still working to improve and design better devices. Festool, Bosch Tools and Milwaukee Tools are a few of the most popular companies doing just that. There is a constant need for newer and more improved products. Every year something else is coming to the surface.

Besides the popular drills and saws, there are instruments for almost any job. Most carpentry jobs are now completed using the new technology. Drywall tools are also becoming more and more popular in power. There really isn't any area of construction that does not use them today.

With today's technology not only are these tools becoming more and more powerful, but they are being connected with computers to do more work. With the help of lasers, these instruments can make more accurate cuts and makes assembly of all building components much easier to create. The computerized graphics the computer software provides, can make creating all the building components possible on the plant floor. Then these parts are moved to the building site and constructed in a much faster manner.

While the beginning of the power tools was a slow and awkward, they have advance by leaps and bounds. They can now be found in almost every home and used for almost any job. It has made easier for both the contractor and homeowner to build and repair anything that needs attention.
