Pets add up to the simple joys of human living. That's why they deserve all the care they can get from their owners. Ragdoll kittens are a favorite among many breeds of cats because of their timid temperament and nice fur. But extra caution should be taken when giving the care they need. Here are some tips for people who are just getting started with Ragdoll cats.

Welcoming a new pet at home is definitely something to look forward to. And just as pets are longing to see their new homes, their environment should be kept safe. Leaving electrical cords and blind cords on the loose will leave a mess because cats would like to play with them. Tying them properly would prevent this. Plants which may be poisonous for cats should also be kept away. Make the house kitten-proof for the new addition to the family.

Because cats can find it stressful to be placed in a new house after being separated from their mothers and siblings, providing warmth in their beds as well as adequate food are necessary. For them to get more familiar with their surrounding, confining them in one room for one to two weeks is likely to be done. This would give them ample time to take in everything they see, including the scent of the house.

A litter box should be present for toilet training the cat. There are a lot of brands for cat litter box fillers but wood pellets are also good to use. Sawdust is a no no since it does not absorb the wetness of the litter and it goes out becoming smelly. Litter boxes should be cleaned daily with disinfectants free from phenols and cresols. Chlorine-based agents or diluted household bleach would be better options.

Cooking and preparing the diet of the cat are not difficult either. For growing cats, they need to eat three times a day for a period of five months with a variety of food. Canned goods as well as dry cat food are alright along with slightly raw meat from fish and chicken. Cheese sprinkled on top would be a treat for cats. An all meat diet is not recommended though.

Grooming is also another thing pet owners are busy about. Especially for Ragdoll cats, their fur is silky and long which makes them attractive. So much more if they avail the services of a pet salon. Combing can be done on a weekly basis or as frequent as owners want. Bathing is also hygienic but the opinion of the breeder would have to be asked regarding this.

Another concern that pet owners should pay more attention to is the overall health of their cats. There are a lot of fleas, ticks and worms that could get into the systems of cats. This can be quite annoying on their part; treatment should be acquired as quickly as possible. Veterinarians would be able to tell which ones are appropriate along with the vaccines that cats can have.

Ragdoll kittens are best kept indoors to protect them from the dangers outside. Cats are curious animals; they would love to play with and experiment on what they see from the environment. Having a set of toys safe for them as well as a scratching post made of cardboard or sisal rope would keep them busy enough inside.
